As a Reiki practitioner, the Covid epidemic and ensuing lockdowns has had an enormous impact on my profession. It has always been said that Space and Time has no impact on Reiki and other schools of energy work, but I'm not sure anyone has been forced to put this to the test quite like we have recently!
I’ve heard some really interesting questions from friends and clients - intertwined with some totally understandable skepticism around the idea of distance Reiki. For me, this has definitely been part and parcel of a whole ‘what I can do, can’t I do, what will work or won’t work remotely’ conversation that I had with myself back in April 2020. At my most worried, I’ve pondered: how do I convince potentials client that I’m not making this all up?!
Maybe a little context would be helpful. Before we realised what a longterm situation this is, I thought the first lockdown would be a perfect opportunity to have a bit of a break; spend a couple of months over the summer honing my skills, setting up relationships with other practitioners and businesses across the Southeast of England and by autumn, we’d be out of lockdown and I’d be doing Tarot readings over there on Mondays and Saturdays, offering Reiki clinics over there every Wednesday, running Chakra Cleansing raves on the beach every 4th Wolf Moon and dancing myself mad in a hemp kilt, etc… Well, maybe not the last one…yet. But you catch my drift.
But then lockdown kept being extended and reintroduced….the world is about as distant and uncertain as it could be, isn't it? So, I thought I’d face the distance question once and for all, bite the proverbial bullet, offer the service and see how the experience was for my clients and myself….
…and I was absolutely amazed! From a Tarot reading where I saw my client’s husband taking an ironing board out to the car (freaking my client out a little, I think!) to the Reiki treatment when I could taste and smell the biscuit my client had just eaten moments before our session, I have experienced and I know - with every atom of my body - that Reiki is as eternal and all-pervasive as space and time. I don't know how it works, but it works!
Personally, I’ve always believed that everything in the universe is made up of energy, so I feel like I’ve been quite fortunate from that perspective, coming from a basis of belief in the principles. Still, until you have experienced sharing Reiki with someone else somewhere else, it is a hard one to get your head around. This is where I’ve been truly blessed by my personal experience. Over the last year, I’ve had truly remote or distant clients; people literally hundreds and thousands of miles away, who have benefited from distance Reiki.
I don’t think it is surprising that so many people claim to have so much stronger experiences with distance Reiki as opposed to in person Reiki. It didn’t occur to me that this might be the case, but it has certainly been my experience.
Reiki is Energy.
Everything is made of Energy.
Everything is connected.
Reiki flows through and connects Everything.
It seems less ‘out there’ when you think of it like that, doesn’t it?
